Natural Philosophy in Islam Essay Sample free essay sample

This is the waking up of a new epoch in natural doctrine supported in the Islamic imperium that affects societal constructions. civilizations and attitude towards larning. One may inquire. how do the characteristics of my society explicate its accomplishments in natural doctrine? And. how did Al-Kindi and Averroes change the class of history in natural doctrine? While it seems like the yearss of enlightenment in natural doctrine have slowed as a consequence of turbulence in lands because of warfare and economic prostrations in Europe and the Middle-East. However. fortunes are less terrible in Islamic imperium that now stretches from North Africa and Spain to India. In the treatment of natural doctrine recognition goes to the influential plants of Aristotle and Plato. the great Grecian philosophers because they had laid the current foundations of natural doctrine. Al-Kindi and Averroes had spent infinite clip reflecting on the doctrines and theories of Aristotle. Al-Kindi is a outstan ding natural philosopher life in the bosom of Islamic imperium in Baghdad. Al-Kindi is besides interested in optics and authored a celebrated book â€Å"De aspectibus† ( Ede A ; Cormack. p. 87 ) . Another noteworthy figure in natural doctrine is Averroes populating in Spain. He spends infinite clip reflecting on the scientific discipline and doctrines of Aristotle and writes commentary based on his apprehension of Aristotle’s work and expands on his unfinished plants. He believes â€Å"Aristotle is the most of import philosopher† ( Lecture notes. January 10 ) . There is assortment of civilization. but most influential is the instructions of the faith Islam. Although. it’s a comparatively new imperium in the universe but the civilization it promotes through its faith has attracted many people into ch ange overing to Islam. Islamic imperium has peaceable population â€Å"they were people who wished to take part. in one manner or another. in the most advanced rational civilization available† ( Lindberg. p. 171 ) . When there is freedom to derive cognition and spiritual persecution is non utmost. it is safe to state Islamic imperium has people from assortment of human ecology life in harmoniousness. In the Islamic imperium there was spiritual tolerance ( Ede A ; Cormack. p. 77 ) writes. â€Å"The ‘People of the book’ those who shared the Old Testament as a foundational spiritual papers. were officially tolerated by Islamic rulers† . The societal hierarchy in the Islamic imperium has lands that maps like any other land but with a strong spiritual brotherhood. This sort of state of affairs disrupts the societal construction and the effects are besides felt in the neighbouring Islamic imperium because of the changeless wars between the imperiums and lands in the part. The representatives and bookmans of Islamic imperium have accumulated aggregate resources of information and books on natural doctrine and translated to Arabic and Latin to be studied by philosophers and bookmans. Muslim philosophers are lending much to the finds in scientific discipline. doctrines. mathematics. uranology. optics and music. In another statement ( Lindberg. p. 174 ) says. â€Å"Mathematics became indispensable for a broad assortment of commercial. legal. and governmental intents. One of the great finds in mathematics is â€Å"the creative activities of ‘0’ a figure that had neer existed before alternatively â€Å"0† meant absence of Numberss. † ( Lecture notes. January 10 ) . The Islamic scholars’ part to natural doctrine is alone because It is said by ( Lindberg. p. 165 ) that â€Å"this is the narrative of transmittal of larning. † Prognosis of the current Islamic educational construction shows small promotions in the hereafter. The attitude of Islamic imperium towards larning can be described as careless because deficiency of promotions ( Lindberg. p. 175 ) says. â€Å"Islamic instruction did nil to forbid the foreign scientific disciplines ; but neither did it make much to back up them† . However. we see a different side in Europe because they have easy begun to retrieve and reconstruct societies. The instruction of Islamic interlingual renditions and enlargement of Greek natural doctrines and other Islamic finds are now being taught in European universities. It is safe to state Islamic part to natural doctrine has changed the class of history and humanity can ship on a new journey of natural doctrine and progress into the hereafter.

The Family Crucible Essays

The Family Crucible Essays The Family Crucible Paper The Family Crucible Paper As I was reading The Family Crucible, I felt as if I was in the therapy session with Carl Whitaker. The book provides an excellent example of family structure, and how the system can quickly break-down. The book also provides a detailed account around family relationships, personal attitudes, values, and psychological existence that affect our everyday roles for example, the role of a spouse, friend, and family member (i. e. Sister, brother, parent). Carl Whitaker started off as a medical doctor OB/GYN to be exact. In 1938 Carl would take a job at a psychiatric hospital and develop a strong passion for the schizophrenic client and their family. He believed that the whole family system must be treated in order for symptoms to disappear (Napier, Whitaker, 1978). Carl Whitaker stated â€Å"family therapy was like exploratory surgery† (Napier et al. , 1978, p. 19). Carl Whitaker’s approach to the Brice’s family was very interesting especially the co-therapist approach. It’s kind of like two heads are better than one. The two therapists would not start the session unless all members of the system were present. At first, I thought the two therapist approach might appear to the client as a type of ganging up. However, reading on, I was able to see that having the two therapists where one would get close and personal to the issue at hand, while the other would stay professional and evaluate the issue from an outsider point of view, was an excellent way of approaching the whole system, and not singling out one member. The one technique that I did not agree with was the scapegoating. I cannot imagine how a child or even an adult might feel if they are put in the spotlight, meaning the one member that caused all the problems (Napier, Whitaker, 1978). I think that Whitaker’s approach is an excellent way of involving the family in the therapeutic process while teaching them the necessary skills to solve their own problems in the future. I think in response to diversity issue using this approach, one is not applying a specific intervention, but a direction to which the family will travel once the true issue is uncovered. The therapist puts control of the therapeutic process in the hands of the family. Whitaker stated â€Å"if people are really going to get deeply into therapy, they need to know that they can escape easily† (Napier, Whitaker, 1978, p. 33). I believe that Whitaker’s approach can be applied to most families’ cultural background, because ultimately it’s the family that is controlling the flow of therapy with the guidance of the two therapists. Assignment Math Problem Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Assignment - Math Problem Example The multiple regression analysis helps in examining relationship between one continuous dependent variable with one or more continuous independent variables. The regression analysis uses numeric data for analysis. In the field of public affairs, a researcher usually has to study various variables to quantify effect of one variable to other. In the case researcher does not include other factors affecting a particular variable it would lead to a particular bias known as ‘omitted variable biases. Multiple regression analysis helps in removing this bias by dealing with large number of explanatory variables. The study of these variables helps in asserting hypothesis wrong or vice-versa. This helps in identifying and generalizing the research findings for a larger population. The sample size needs to be sufficient for the analysis. The t-test or ANOVA is used with the data where variables are categorical and continuous. The mean scores of the groups are compared in order to understan d the difference between the groups. In the case of public affair, this analysis helps to test the probability differing two means. The correlation studies help in conducting rigorous research that can be done in order to understanding the nature of relationship between the variables. The correlation study helps in testing the validity of the research. The paired variables are linked with each other. The scatter plot produced to graphically present the correlation of a variable with the help of a linear line. The more is the gap between points from the straight line, the higher will be the weakness of relationship between those two variables. The direction refers to the slope of the scatter point. The variables can be in positive or negative relationship. The difference in one variable will have corresponding changes in the other variable. The positive correlation provides us information about the nature of change towards one another. The negative correlation shows that the change i s opposite direction. The correlation method is an appropriate method to examine the relationship of meaningful data. The data should be quantifiable. The correlation cannot be examined using categorical data. The correlation and regression studies are used for testing hypothesis and determining cause-and-effect relationships. The associated variables are studied for the association and the nature of association. There are various benefits of correlation test. This can help in predicting and helps in validating. This is a reliable method and helps in verifying theory. The Pearson coefficient is used when the variables are continuous. This requires one independent and one dependent variable. For example if there is a need to study the level of awareness of a social-environmental sustainability programs among different genders and its relation with success of program in particular geographic region. The level of awareness and the difference of awareness among the population can be und erstood by the correlation study. The regression analysis will help in identifying if the level of awareness was linked to the level of success of program. The t-test can help in accepting or rejecting the hypothesis that success of progra

Consensual Relationship Agreements Research Paper - 2

Consensual Relationship Agreements - Research Paper Example According to evidence, about 75% of the companies do have the CRA policy about workstation romance. Experts agree that the policy is exceptionally crucial because workplace affairs are inevitable. Discussion This discussion contributes to the controversy on the issue of CRA policy within the work environment. It aims to define CRA and argue for its benefits in the workplace. In addition, it will provide counter argument against CRA use and ethical issues involved in its use, as well as other options apart from CRA that will redress workstation relationships. Benefits of CRA in workplace Workstation affairs are inevitable. Experts agree that when clusters of individuals work together for a week, month or several years, there is bound to develop some form of attraction. Similarly, concerning attraction, it is not a person’s position that put them together, but physical attraction and mutual interests. Employees cannot help who they get attracted to and why. In most cases, it is instant, while, in other cases, it may take some time. The more managers reject office relationships, the more it occurs. Therefore, offices and companies should have CRA policy to guide and direct office relationships at all time, (Pierce, Karl & Brey, 2012). ... The CRA policy keeps office romance under track, prevents favoritism and ensures that the behavior does not infringe or offend other workers in the workplace. The contract does alleviate crude behavior and sexual harassment, instead; it permits individuals who are attracted to each other to develop an affair without guilt, secrets, stress and fear, (Tyler, 2008). The policy is an authentication of their affair being deliberate and consensual, warranting that the relationship statutes do not influence the dynamic of workstation ethical infrastructure. The parties in relationship agree to adhere by the managers’ antidiscrimination, workstation conduct policies and anti- harassment policies. Several employers and workers find that consensual relationship agreement can be advantageous and detrimental in the workstation, influencing personal affairs, workstation infrastructure and profitability. Counter argument Some scholars argue against consensual relationship agreement and stat e that workstation relationships can create various issues that cause poor work performance. Some argue that workers involved in the affairs can be blamed for poor judgments – the ability to make fair, actual, and the better decisions centered on the condition at hand. Similarly, braches of morals refer to infringing the ethical standards or codes of behavior in an organization, which involves but not restricted to, counterfeiting information, interest conflict, sexual harassment, and braking organizational codes of conduct. Productivity lots are a crucial argument against workstation affairs. When workers spend more time concentrating on their romance affairs leaving little time for workplace activities, and thus, minimizing the productivity of workers, (Tyler,

JOurnal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

JOurnal - Essay Example She is a big and obese lady who had asked me to help her select some clothes for her. I chose for her an appropriate dress but all she wanted were dresses that were black in color. I had recommended other colors appropriate for her but she refused these and instead insisted on having only black dresses. I suggested pants for her but she instead wanted either a skirt or dress but only if it is color black. I got lucky and was able to get one for her. She was a bit friendly and talkative but I felt or sensed she was a weirdo somehow but thought it impolite to say so to her. I took a brief break and came back to the center at around five o’clock but I ended feeling scared of black clothes right now. Quite funny. After I got home last week from work, I got sick and took two days off at the agency. Today, I am still sick but cannot afford to be absent anymore as I had been absent for a number of days already. I am extremely thankful to the supervisor for accepting my excuses for absences but I need to render some overtime to make up for previous absences. I went to the agency today but still weird regarding my encounter with that big fat lady last week who chose black clothes. I saw three other interns who later on left as they had rendered their time already. It is now only me who is left and I felt sad about it. Later, a male client went on looking for some male stuff and men’s clothes. I got everything he wanted in an hour as he was not difficult to deal with. I went home and in the late afternoon, I came back to the donation center and saw it filled with many people who donated clothes and other stuff they no longer wanted to the agency. I was a bit happy that people are so generou s despite the hard times and I was grateful for their charity. I stayed here until past midnight and I went home somehow happy, elated, and fulfilled. I am glad to have helped other people and somehow help reduce poverty (Van

Html Stands For Hypertext Markup Language Information Technology Essay

Html Stands For Hypertext Markup Language Information Technology Essay Create a form as display below. The form should be able to have the input tag as together with the option to be chosen from and radio buttons as an option as well. Finally the email should be able to send an email to any respective mail address Design the following diagram with the needed element include in it. It should consist frames and shadow as per display. Introduction Before I start my assignment which is based on the subject that has been listed in the assignment, I would give a brief introduction about the subject that I learn know. The subject that I want to introduce is web programming. Many developers and programmers face the dilemma of how to start a web development project. While many developers can create large desktop applications easily, they are not proficient in creating web applications. Most of the developers have some level of familiarity with HTML and the deployment of static pages on the web server. HTML stands for hypertext markup language, and it is the language in which, until recently, virtually all web pages were written. Now, dont break out in hives when u hear the word languange. You dont need complex logical or mathematical formulas to work with HTML, and you dont need to think like a programmer to use it. Computer programming must think through the tasks that they want their programs to perform, and then develop an elaborate. Hypertext refers to the way in which web page HTML documents are linked together. When you click a link in a web page, you are using hypertext. It is the system of linking documents that has made the World Wide Web the global phenomenon it has become. The first step toward understanding and working with HTML is learning the basic term that describes most of the function of this language. You will come across these terms repeatedly as you use HTML and if you understand them, you will have progressed a long way towards comprehending HTML. The question 1 is about HTML form is section of a document containing normal content, markup, special elements called controls as checkboxes, radio buttons and menus. Also labels on those controls. Users generally complete a form by modifying its controls like entering text and selecting menu items. Then it will before submitting the form to an agent for processing. Example like to a Web server and to a mail server. The question 2 is about the HTML Tables with the In my second question of assignment that ask how design the following diagram with the needed element include in it and it and should consist frames and shadow as per diagram. Than on the diagram that show Olympia college centres in on big rectangle box and the side with small rectangle boxes of the campus such as Kuala lumpur, Penang, Kuantan and other, following with the shadow boarder.Next, the codes I create for this diagram is start with .Cell spacing is the pixel width between the individual of the data cell in the table. The thickness of the lines making in the table grid and the default is zero, even if the boarder is set at zero, the cell spacing lines will be invisibles. Than, cellpadding is the pixal space between the cell of the contents and the cell boarder. The defaults of these properties also zero, furthermore, this feature is not used often, but sometimes comes in hardly when you have your boarders bit for make easy viewing. In additional, cellpadding is invisible, even with the boarder properties turned on. The width is make sure how size of the width that we can adjust the diagram. Moreover, the second codes line i create is Olympia college centres ,row span is set how many rows a cell span can get a little confusing because its requires our to think through how the cell affect the rows after the row it start in and its particular useful in this situation to add boarders to the table during the design process, even if the table wont early use boarder. HTML frames allow authors to show the documents in a variety of views, which may be independent windows or sub windows. Some views offer designers a way to keep certain information visible, while others display a scrolled or replaced. For example, in the same window, one frame might display a static banner, a second a navigation menu, and the third the main document that can be scrolled through or replaced by navigating in the second frame. One other hand In HTML, frames allow you to present some of the HTML document in the same window. For example, you may have left frame for navigation and the right to the main content. In additional frame all by making the networking sites and defining each frame of the page. Site is in fact the network does not contain any content just a reference for each frame. HTML frames are used to determine each frame in the frameset, all tagged frames with tags nested frameset. moreover, if you want to create a web page with 2 frames, you will need to create three files one file for each frame, and a file to determine how they fit together.Finaly, the following codes will be the campus central. Conclusion After completing my assignment, I have finally come into a conclusion in the end. I now know what is the purpose of a html and the role that a web page cheeks used in web programming. In HTML I get more knowledge about that, so I also understand the creations of html when used for the web page.Furtermore, in this assignment I know the method of html what is the radio button, text box, email by url. On the other hand, my second question is I study and understand about the how to display the table and from this question i search some web to helpful my question to create this diagram to show the output of the diagram in web page other than that my lecture also help and guide me in this assignment. In additional get more knowledge idea to create this assignment. As a result we need to upgrade the html time to time to make sure our work will be done successful without any problem. Finally, in this assignment makes me clearness more detail about html and web. World Bank Report & World Development Report Essay example -- essays r

Starting from the year 1990, the international community has set up plans to eliminate poverty in the world by the year 2015 with a set of specific goals to be achieved by that date. These goals were set up according to the studies done beforehand, that showed where and what the major poverty areas and problems in the world were. These studies explained that although the poverty problem was extensive, there were several factors of which the crisis was mainly constituted. The first problem was extreme income poverty, with almost half the world's population living on less than $2 a day, and a fifth living on less than $1 daily. Another major problem was education, which encompassed many aspects. Not only wasn't primary education compulsory in many regions, but there were also problems regarding women getting equal education to men, due to cultural, social and economic barriers. The third main problem area was health, where child mortality rates, for example, were alarming; 'in rich countries fewer than 1 child in 100 does not reach its fifth birthday, while in the poorest countries as many as a fifth of the children do not'. After getting these goals in focus and setting these plans in motion, it was discovered that they weren't going as well as planned. It was found that the goals were pretty unrealistic compared to the conditions and the time period. For example, one of the goals was 'cutting income poverty by half'. This could only be achieved, if income poverty decreased by 2.7% annually between 1990 and 2015, which didn't happen, because studies showed that between 1990 and 1998, it decreased by only 1.7% annually. This failure to achieve the objectives was mainly because of the inequality of the world; inequality in distribution of income, inequality in cultural and religious conditions, inequality in practically too many facets of life to be able to control or conform to a generalized plan. So, from the outcome of this attempt and from going back to the reports of previous decades, a new strategy to eliminate poverty was laid out, based on three fundamental interrelated concepts that could be adapted to each community differently according to its individual conditions. These concepts are promoting opportunity, facilitating empowerment, and enhancing security. In promoting opportunity, the government plays an important role, in making it easy for ... ...le, it says that the governments have to improve their facilities and services, like health, education and infrastructure, so as to give the poor equal opportunities. In the WBR, on the other hand, it says that in needy countries, the World Bank actually finances and funds their infrastructure and educational programs. In the WBR it mentions many different things of this sort, while in the WDR it only clarifies the plan that should be adopted by the countries. Another difference is that in the WBR it is sort of dealing with clients that it wants to please and to better its performance for, and that its plan for reducing poverty, is only part of what it does, in order to reach this goal. The WDR was dealing with the poverty problem only, so I think it sounded more involved in it and more giving in attention to this problem only, using greater detail. I think that for the general public, the WDR is much easier laid out and written, with sufficient background information, plenty of detail and a more humanitarian side of the issue. The WBR is much more disordered, financially oriented, with much greater monetary detail and not much emphasis on the compassionate side of the problem.

Marriage and Dowry Essay

Woman – a daughter, a sister, a wife and a grandmother, throughout her life she dreams of having a wonderful life, a life to see to it that her marks in the school will make her parents happy, a life to see to it that her husband stays healthy, a life to see to it that her children study for their exams and a life to die seeing others happy. She cares for others, more than herself, then why we see her so much vulnerable in every moment of her life. So many issues to talk about women, rape being the most popular issue on women in the present time, almost all the women, in India, are vulnerable to this offence. But just like rape, the dowry system has affected the women psychologically, physically and emotionally. The dowry system kills her like a slow poison. The custom of dowry, in India, has spread through the hierarchy of social stratification. Several feminists suggest that the practice was initially adopted by the upper castes, then over a period of time it has been passed down into lower castes, and eventually reaches the untouchables, the outcasts. As the sociological studies suggests, often lower groups intend to copy there dominant group in there society. India ranks 136, in Human Development Index, among 187 counties around the world. This show, the people in India are in very bad condition and more than half of the population lives in poverty. The reason for poverty in India, if we look historically, it is because of the caste system, which restricted half of the population, in India, to develop, as even in present time 66% of Dalits are poor, and if we look in present time, education has deprived the poor from getting a better standards of living. It is these poorer sections as well as the middle class of our country who, not being educated and having good standard of living are still governed by old customs and traditions and continue to practise the dowry system, were in the name of gifting the groom the bride’s family is put into debt. But even in many rich families too, this system is being followed, even though they are well educated. The sums of cash and goods involved, as dowry, are often so large that the payment can lead to vicious cycle of debt in the bridal family. This has a very bad effect on the lives of unmarried women who are considered as economic liabilities by their parents, this leads to preference of boy over girl, leading to female infanticide and among the married women; they are physically and mentally harmed by their husbands and his family members, if promised dowry are not forthcoming. Modernization in India has became a barrier to many customs to be continued, like the caste system, the child marriage etc. but modernization has also lead to increase in practise of certain customs which were restricted to certain communities, as mentioned above. When we see caste, dowry and modernization, they are all inter linked with each other. With modernization, individual is not restricted to do his caste occupation and has chances to have good standard of living. Since new income and earning opportunities, brought about by modernization, are predominantly filled by men, there price tag of dowry increased. After analysing the historical developments of dowry system among the people in India, who are governed under Hindu law, now let us look at the Muslims, who are the 2nd largest population in India. Despite the fact that Islam’s beauty lies in simplicity and it recommends simple marriage, some transgressions such as dowry have crept into Muslim society in a wide range. When we look through Quran, we come across â€Å"Mahr†. According to â€Å"mahr† it is a mandatory payment, in the form of money or possessions paid by the groom, or by groom’s father, to the bride at the time of marriage that legally becomes bride’s property. But as time has passed by, Muslims have changed their character and are following their Hindu counterparts in demanding and offering dowry both, in heavy cash and kind. The competition among the rich and well-to-do section of the Muslim community to reserve a good match for their daughters for whatever the demand is, has increased. Education has hardly has any influence on the minds of the people in respect of dowry. On the contrary, a highly educated man expects a higher amount of dowry, just as it happens among the Hindus. The violence committed on women, for dowry, has increased in recent times. If we observe properly, as to why this dowry violence takes place, we can see a broader picture. The reason for dowry is mainly because the women are seen as less productive than man, concept of dowry itself shows that one’s gender determines one’s worth. The roots of this deficiency can be seen were even a bride, who may be well educated and earning than her husband, will still have to pay the dowry price, just like the other bride who is not educated and not earning. And in some instances too, were even if demands for dowry were to be satisfied fully, young women would continue to face torture and harassment in their in-laws homes because of women’s custom-sanctioned-inferiority. Dowry deaths are example of patriarchal authority. In some cases, the patriarchal authority expresses itself by murdering the young women by burning with kerosene (most frequent in urban areas) or drowning (common in rural areas). Other methods employed to murder include poisoning and physical battery. These facts and historical development shows that it is because of the disrespect and uncultured behaviour that we show towards women, has lead to female infanticide, uneducated girls, sexual harassment, dowry system, heavy debt in bride’s family and domestic violence. Let us all respect women, and treat them has equals, because only this solution, will lead to abolishment of many social evils against women.

The relationship between playing violent video games and childrens aggressive behavior

The relationship between playing violent video games and childrens aggressive behavior This research paper overviews the impact of violent video games on the psychology of children and adolescents. The paper actually entails the discussion of whether video games as well as the violent add-ons of these games have any impact on children’s behavior.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The relationship between playing violent video games and children’s aggressive behavior What do the evidences show? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In other words, it aims to discuss whether children’s behavior becomes aggressive regarding different situations in life upon excessive gaming. For this objective, the research work which is already available from existing sources can be reviewed from and presented in a discussion regarding the subject. Video Games do Cause Aggression in Children’s Behavior The majority of the intellectual circle, which keeps a close watch on media and the violent conte nt that is showed on media, is of the opinion that the media content shown through any type of medium is harmful for the psychological and physiological health of children. These scholars state that video games with violent content are potential threats for the health of children and adolescents as they contribute to aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, fear of being harmed and nightmares. They stimulate aggressive behaviour among children by influencing their thought processes and decision-making ability, which leads them to behave in an aggressive manner in certain situations. Moreover, violent video games reduce the pro-social behavior among children, as they tend to stay in isolation and complete solitude. This aggressive behavior is often demonstrated through physical activity, which is directed at causing harm to others (American Academy of Pediatrics). Other scholars and intellectuals, who focus on understanding the changes in the children’s thought proces s while playing violent video games, have observed that children show consistent aggressive behavior in certain situations. Therefore, when children are given regular exposure to the violent content of video games not only they tend to physically harm others with their aggression but also negatively affect their own wellbeing in frustration and agony. The trends that were noticed in most of these research studies concluded that the level of exposure to violent content of media determines the level of aggression showed by the children. This implied that children who had less exposure to the violent video games showed slight aggression in their behavior as compared to those children who were constantly exposed to violent video games (Gentile and Buckley).Advertising Looking for report on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Another study described the impact of video games on the children’s thinking abili ty by stating that the experience of interacting with the video games and their content is entirely different from listening to calm and good music. These video games have negative impact on the children’s though process and create certain confusion between the real world and contents of the video games. Therefore, this confusion leads to frustration when the children are not able to find out answers to their questions, and in return it results in aggressiveness in their behaviour, which is considered as a major reason for them to act in a supercilious manner (Gentile, Lynch and Linder). Individuals who oppose the idea that video games cause aggression in the children’s behavior are of the view that millions of children and adolescents play video games round the globe but not all of them show aggression in their behavior. Therefore, it is wrong to generalise that video games cause aggression in the children’s behavior. Several researches which can support this a rgument have actually revealed that the majority of children, when exposed to violent video games, do not show any sense of being anxious, panic or anarchic (Olson and Kutner). Another research to support the belief that video games do not cause aggression in the children’s behavior presented findings which suggest that the majority of individuals who committed crimes in the US and UK belonged to the age bracket of 30 to 35 years, and only 10% of the crimes were committed by children aging between 10 to 15 years. This report further suggests that the majority of criminals were addicted to playing violent video games, but children who committed crimes were not regular gamers. This, therefore, implies that their criminal behaviour was not motivated by the influence of games that they had played before committing the crime. Keeping in consideration these results, it is obvious that blaming video games only for causing aggression in children’s behavior is unfair (Olson and Kutner). A report published in 2001 by Shalala stated that the major reasons for children committing crimes are their unstable mental condition and low quality of life they have at their homes either because of the poor economic conditions of their families or weak relationships between their parents, which affected their behavior in one way or another.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The relationship between playing violent video games and children’s aggressive behavior What do the evidences show? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This study is of the view that a small percentage of children commit crimes under the influence of violence and aggression showed in video games, and in fact it is the outcome of moral panic and mental disorders that are leading to higher number of crimes committed by children. The report concluded by stating that blaming video games and media exposure for causing aggression amon g children is distorting the efforts to help children overcome their aggression. By wrongly focusing on the role of games on children’s behavior both the government and childcare organizations are only wasting their resources, which will surely not yield any significant results (Shalala). To further elaborate the opposition to the fact that video games are responsible for causing aggression among children, Christopher wrote in his PhD thesis that the most significant reason for stimulating aggressive behavior among children is depression and association of children with friends who are aggressive and violent. Most of the researchers also highlight that the language and vocabulary which parents use with their children and the antisocial characteristics of a child’s personality do tend to have more serious consequences for the child’s mental health as compared to the violent media content. The review of the literature regarding the topic under discussion leads the author to conclude that there is a need of extensive research on studying the changes in behavioral trends among children when they are exposed to violent content of the video games. Moreover, research is needed to understand the dynamics of the children’s psychology more closely in order to determine whether the violent video games cause aggression among children. In author’s own point of view, it is quite obvious that violent media content is not the only reason for causing aggression among children, but there are several other factors such as family structure, values, norms, and life experiences that could also have negative impact on children’s mental health and behavior. Teledentistry within Kentucky Essays - Dentistry, Health Informatics

Teledentistry within Kentucky Essays - Dentistry, Health Informatics Teledentistry within Kentucky Teledentistry allows for an entirely new way of providing specialist advice. Through the use of telecommunication and computer technologies, it is now possible to provide interactive access to specialists that are not limited by the constraints of time and distance. It is a valuable tool in providing dental care in rural areas, where there is a shortage of specialists and a lack of comprehensive and sophisticated health care. It can be a solution to the barriers of dental care like the lack and cost of transportation, time off from work and school, and to save the patients money. In September of 2014 a member of the Kentucky Board of Dentistry discussed the advantages for the practice of teledentistry. The member questioned if the board needed to transmit regulations that addressed teledentistry, as it is an emerging issue nationally and publicly in Kentucky. After a discussion, it was decided to table the issue and try to find out more about other state boards involvement in teledentistry at an upcoming AADB meeting. During a meeting later held on November of 2014, the Kentucky board of Dentistry discussed the impact that teledentistry will soon have on the dental profession by creating issues in the areas of public health; digital imaging of dentition; fee splitting; and cyber dentists. A motion was also made that the teledentistry committee be comprised of certain members and that the committee will invite members from other reasonable stakeholders from such entities as the KY Dental Association, University of Louisville School of Dentistry; University of Kentucky College of Dentistry; KY Dental Hygienists Association; Academy of General Dentistry, etc. as appropriate to facilitate, research and formulate potential regulations to then present to the full Board for consideration. Using the state of Virginia as a proposed model to immolate, the Virginia Legislator has directed the Department of Medical Assistance Services to create a two-year pilot program to provide dental services to school-age children who are eligible to receive pediatric dental services through the Smiles for Children program in school systems, which at least 50 percent of the elementary students have not been examined by a dentist within the preceding 12 months or have no dental home of record. Those participating dentists will provide supervision of dental hygienists through the methods of teledentistry. A cost analysis was undertaken by comparing the costs of teledentistry with two alternatives: outreach visits, in which the specialist regularly visited the remote communities, and hospital visits, where patients in remote communities traveled to hospital for consultations. This study found the cost savings of teledentistry were greatest in the remote communities, where patients would otherwise have had to travel long distances for specialist consultations. Currently, overall dentist needed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky is high with 36% of the current supply required to meet current demand. Many counties in Kentucky need greater than 100% increases in the current dentist workforce, and three counties appear to have no dentists currently practicing. Jefferson County has the most pronounced need of 150 dentists. In spite of some issues, which need to be resolved, the potential of teledentistry is tremendous, which needs to be explored immensely in the state of Kentucky. 1."Kentucky Board of Dentistry." 13 Sept. 2014. Racism in the United States Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Racism in the United States - Essay Example My knowledge regarding the role of the principle of â€Å"all men are created equal† has developed to a level that I now understand Slavery was just a major economic driving force, as opposed to a basis for identifying what was morally wrong in the American colonies. It is not slavery, but the issue of race that helped solve the moral contradiction characterized by American colonies at the time. To illustrate this, it is the race that explained the reason some group of people was denied their rights, whilst others enjoyed theirs and took them for granted. I have learned that there was a similarity in the Thomas Jefferson’s policy of encouraging the assimilation of American Indians with President Andrew Jackson’s removal policy. The similarity is that both leaders sought out for the interests of the white American in the policies they advocated. It dawns on me that the policy supported the propagation of the so-called â€Å"Civilized† ways- Agriculture. I c onclude, could that the policies of both leaders were aimed at imposing the American culture on the Native Americans at any cost.  I find Thomas Jefferson different from Andrew Jackson in terms of the approach he took while in the process of furthering the interest of white Americans. To demonstrate this, Jefferson advocated the assimilation of Cherokees to the ways of Americans while Jackson displayed apathy by enforcing the removal of Cherokees. Finally, I feel that there is no gap in my knowledge regarding race because I have learned a lot.

Methods to Access the Canopy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Methods to Access the Canopy - Essay Example The original method of technical climbing hardware to trees adopted by biologists began in the 1970s. Canopy access using ropes, although independently evolved across the globe, eventually appeared side-by-side in the journal Biotropica, when Perry's colleague published her Costa Rica work in the same issue as Lowman's first Australian data set (Lowman 1984; Nadkarni 1984). Single Rope Techniques (SRT) is portable and relatively inexpensive method of canopy study which allowed canopy access even to graduate students with their modest budgets. However the limitation of SRT is such that it was not useful for emergent trees whose enormous canopies usually extended far away from the main trunk itself. To access foliage on the extremities, another invention known as the canopy boom (a horizontal bar with a bosun's chair at one end that swung into the leafy canopy away from the main trunk) was created by Peter Ashton and colleagues. Later on, with the development of more modern technology, construction crane was first set up by Alan Smith of Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) to study forest canopies in Panama. Although relatively expensive, this device allowed access to any region of canopy beneath the crane arm without regard to the tree trunk. Methods are further expanded to using hot-air balloon and raft operation, called Radeau des Cimes (translation: raft on the rooftop of the world) which was designed by
